External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who was on a visit to meet with the heads of delegations from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During the meeting, he briefed him on preparations for the upcoming annual India-Russia summit. According to news agencies, Putin shook hands with and welcomed Jaishankar at the representative office in the Kremlin’s Senate Palace.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on social media that he was deeply honored to meet Russian President Putin in Moscow today. He conveyed greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said he briefed him on preparations for the upcoming annual India-Russia summit. He also discussed regional and global developments. He expressed his deepest appreciation for his vision and guidance in strengthening and deepening our relationship.
Zero tolerance for terrorism
In Moscow for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday said the world should demonstrate zero tolerance for terrorism. He stressed that there can be no justification for this, it cannot be ignored, and it cannot be “covered up.”
He said India believes the SCO must adapt to the changing global landscape, develop a comprehensive agenda, and improve its functioning. He added that India will make a positive and full contribution to these objectives.
When can he come to India?
In a video, Putin is seen welcoming Jaishankar, accompanied by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Joint Secretary Mayank Singh. This meeting comes ahead of Putin’s proposed visit to India later this year. The Russian President is expected to visit India around December 5.
The External Affairs Minister held extensive discussions with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday. Earlier, the External Affairs Minister met with President Putin along with other heads of delegations from SCO member states. The meeting was attended by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, Kazakhstan’s Olzhas Bektonov, Kyrgyzstan’s Adilbek Kasymaliyev, Tajikistan’s Kokhir Rasulzoda and Uzbekistan’s Abdulla Aripov, as well as Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and SCO Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.
