External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held separate meetings with his counterparts from Bangladesh and Bhutan on Thursday. During this, he discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in different areas.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the meeting of foreign ministers of the member countries of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

After his talks with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, Jaishankar posted on X, “It was a pleasure to meet Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud in New Delhi. The continuous high-level exchange reflects the strength of India-Bangladesh friendship. Ways to further strengthen it were discussed.”

Meeting with Bhutan Foreign Minister

On the other hand, regarding his talks with Bhutan Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel, Jaishankar said that views were exchanged on taking forward the unique relations of friendship and goodwill between India and Bhutan.

Meeting with Tharaka Balasuriya too

He wrote that it was a pleasure to talk to Bhutan Foreign Minister DN Dhungyel on the occasion of the BIMSTEC meeting. We exchanged our views on taking forward our unique relations. The External Affairs Minister also held a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya.

Bilateral partnership discussed

Jaishankar said on ‘X’ that it was a pleasure to welcome Sri Lanka’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Tharaka Balasuriya during the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers’ meeting. Our bilateral partnership was discussed. Apart from India, BIMSTEC includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.

Support for the return of democracy in Myanmar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday told his Myanmar counterpart U Than Swe that India supports the return of democracy in Myanmar. He also stressed on the early return of Indians illegally detained by gangs involved in cyber scams in Myawaddy city. In the meeting with U Than Swe, Jaishankar also raised the issue of illegal drug flow, arms trade and activities of insurgent groups on the India-Myanmar border.
