Jal Jeevan Mission: Target was set to provide water to every household in rural areas by 2024 but the Assam government postponed it in its state, Congress leader Bhupen Bora alleged corruption in the whole matter and demanded a CBI inquiry

The Assam government has taken a big decision regarding Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The Assam government has decided to suspend all activities under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The government has also revealed the reason for this. According to the information, the reason for this is a major lapse in quality control and delay in the project deadline. But after this decision of the Assam government, politics has also started in the state. The Congress unit of the state has reacted strongly to the government’s move.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Bora has raised the issue of corruption in the project. He has alleged that there has been widespread corruption around this project. Along with this, he has demanded a CBI inquiry into the activities of the project. Addressing a press conference, the APCC president expressed serious concern about the disruption in the Jal Jeevan Mission.

What is Jal Jeevan Mission?
JJM is an important initiative of the Central Government. The aim of this mission is to provide safe drinking water to every household in the rural areas by 2024. But Bhupen Bora of Congress in Assam has alleged that this mission has not been implemented effectively. The state government failed to implement it. Bhupen Bora targeted the Assam government over this and accused it of not running the project properly.

Bhupen Bora also alleged that the contractors involved in the project could not meet the six-month deadline for single village schemes. He blamed poor monitoring and mismanagement for the delay in Jal Jeevan Mission.

The government said – only incomplete projects are closed

At the same time, Assam government secretary and JJM mission director Kailash Karthik N has ordered the mission to be suspended for the time being. This has raised questions in the state regarding the management of the mission. The opposition party has got an opportunity to target the government. However, the state government has clarified that the projects which have been completed earlier will continue to run smoothly. Only those schemes have been suspended which are incomplete or which have not been completed within time.
