Jamaat E Islami: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind intensifies its protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill and warns Modi government, ‘It will not be good for the country’

Waqf Amendment Bill: The country’s Muslim organization Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has intensified its protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, in a press conference on Friday (February 7, 2025), described this bill as against the spirit of the Constitution. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Vice President Salim Engineer said that the Muslims of the country are of the opinion that this Waqf Amendment Bill is an attempt to weaken the Waqf Board and its properties.

He said that if this bill is passed in its current form, it would be against the basic spirit of the Constitution. He said that this bill violates religious freedom, which is contrary to the fundamental rights given by the Constitution.

Accused state governments of occupying Waqf properties

The organization alleged that the state governments are occupying Waqf properties. Due to this, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has appealed to the government not to try to implement this bill and withdraw it immediately. Talking to ABP News, Salim Engineer said that the government had made the same mistake during the farmers’ reform bill. When the farmers were not taken into confidence, they protested across the country and the government finally had to withdraw the bill.

Salim Engineer said that the matter of Waqf Bill is even more serious, because religious aspect is also involved in it. If the government passes this bill without taking Muslims into confidence, then it will be against the Constitution and will not be good for the country.

Controversy over Waqf Bill

Rejecting the government’s claim of reform in the Waqf Board, Salim Engineer said that earlier he had also opposed the Citizenship Act (CAA) because that too was against the Constitution. Similarly, if the Waqf Amendment Bill is also passed, then the organization will protest in every possible way by staying within the legal framework and will take appropriate steps.
