The atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir has now changed. There has been a lot of change here since the removal of Section 370. Elections are being held for the first time in Kashmir Valley after the removal of 370. The enthusiasm among the people here regarding this is clearly visible. At the same time, people who earlier held fundamentalist and separatist ideologies are now taking part enthusiastically in the voting for the Lok Sabha elections.
Yes, most of the members of Jamaat-e-Islami took part in the voting for Srinagar Lok Sabha seat and cast their votes. Jamaat-e-Islami is a banned organization. Whose former members used their votes in the elections held in Pulwama district and became partners in forming the government. This Lok Sabha election has also become a witness to the fact that for the first time in three decades, an election is being held in the Kashmir Valley without any separatist opposition and without any violence.
‘We believe in democracy’
During this, former Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Ghulam Qadir Wani said that he believes in democracy. And he never called on the public to boycott the elections. Not only this, Amir also said that if he gets permission in the future, he will also contest elections. Wani also cast his vote by reaching the polling booth located in Gusu area of Pulwama district.
‘Want to resolve issues democratically’
While talking to the media, Wani said that he wants to resolve his issues democratically. Wani said that our Jamaat-e-Islami will never do any work which is done underground. He also said that whatever we do, we will do it openly.
‘Will contest elections after removal of ban from the organization’
On the question of Jamaat-e-Islami contesting the assembly elections, he said that Jamaat-e-Islami is a banned organization, so how can it contest the elections. He said that first a decision will be taken regarding whether the ban should be lifted from the organization. He also said that if time and circumstances permit, he will definitely contest the elections. Wani said that he will restore his tradition as before.
