Operation Sindoor: Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, has broken the back of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Out of the 14 local terrorists whose hit list was prepared by the Indian Army and security agencies, 6 have been killed so far. The identification and location of these terrorists was done on the basis of accurate intelligence and technical surveillance. Their job was to provide local logistical support, hideout and help to Pakistani terrorists. For this reason, it was very important to kill them.
The 6 terrorists killed so far include Aamir Nazir Wani, Yawar Ahsan Bhat and Asif Ahmed Sheikh killed in the Pulwama encounter. Apart from this, Shahid Kutte (top commander of Lashkar), Adnan Shafi and Ahsan ul Haq Sheikh are among those killed in the Shopian encounter. With their killing, terrorist activities in sensitive districts like Pulwama and Shopian have almost come to a halt.

Strategy of army and intelligence agencies
Indian army and agencies have now increased surveillance on these remaining terrorists at the ground level. Technical Intelligence (TIC) and drone surveillance are being used to find them. Local associates and overground workers (OGWs) have been identified, most importantly a separate operation plan has been prepared for each terrorist.
Why are local terrorists more dangerous?
These local terrorists provide location and logistics to foreign terrorists. They help in selecting targets and attacking. They work to mislead local youth. They leak information about the movement of police and army, so their elimination is necessary to uproot the roots of terrorism.
