Why Jamaat and Engineer Rashid’s party failed in Jammu and Kashmir, know the reason here
The results of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are now becoming clear. National Conference seems to be getting majority in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as the second largest party in the state. Meanwhile, in the beginning of September, Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) led by Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid had formed an alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) for the assembly elections. During that time, this alliance was being described as a game changer in Jammu and Kashmir. But in this election, this alliance has proved unsuccessful in doing anything special. In fact, out of the 35 seats on which AIP contested the elections, only in Langate assembly seat, AIP’s candidate was leading, while all the 10 Jamaat-supported candidates are trailing in the constituencies.
Jamaat and Engineer Rashid’s party failed
Let us tell you that due to the participation of JEI-supported candidates, JEI has returned to politics after 37 years. Among them, Sayyar Ahmed Reshi (Kulgam) became the only candidate to give a tough fight to his opponents. Reshi conducted 4 main election campaigns in view of the assembly elections. During this election campaign, he talked about democracy and the homecoming of Kashmiri Pandits. After the 16th round out of 17, he got 24,753 votes. He was trailing behind Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and four-time MP MY Tarigami. Let us tell you that in the year 2019, the performance of his candidates supported by the banned Jamaat was disappointing at other places. Kalimullah Lone, son of former Jamaat General Secretary Ghulam Qadir Lone, got a total of 3,300 votes after the conclusion of the last round of counting in Langate and with this he stood in fifth place.
Rashid had registered victory in the Lok Sabha elections
After AIP jumped into this assembly election, it was being speculated that this election is going to be tougher. In fact, in the Lok Sabha elections, Rashid defeated National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and former minister Sajjad Gani Lone. Rashid gained lead in 14 out of 18 assembly constituencies of Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. Let us tell you that Rashid was arrested in the year 2019 in a terror funding case. Rashid was granted bail for campaigning in the assembly elections. During this time, good crowds were seen in Rashid’s election rallies. His brother Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh was successful in retaining Langate, the stronghold of AIP. Let us tell you that Rashid has been an MLA from Langate twice. Currently, Khurshid Ahmed Sheikh is leading with 24,977 votes against Irfan Sultan Panditpuri of People’s Conference.
Why did the pair of JEI and AIP fail?
In fact, in the initial days, when Rashid’s party AIP and Jamaat formed an alliance, it was said that they were sent by the BJP, which went against them somewhere. On the other hand, the National Conference did good election campaigning in the assembly elections. Regarding this, experts say that people wanted a clear mandate in Jammu and Kashmir and they wanted to avoid any kind of disintegration or scattering of votes. Due to this also, people voted one-sidedly for the National Conference and Congress or the BJP. However, Jamaat has never been a major electoral factor in the politics of Jammu and Kashmir. Because Jamaat never got any major success in Kashmir. At the same time, it is being said that Rashid got votes due to sympathy in the Lok Sabha elections, due to which Rashid won the election.
