Jammu Kashmir: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that about a dozen people from both Muslim and Hindu communities lost their lives in a short span of time in Kathua

Jammu and Kashmir PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said the situation in Kathua is extremely disturbing. Nearly a dozen people from both Muslim and Hindu communities have lost their lives in a short span of time. Five of them were allegedly chased by police and cow vigilantes, leading to these deadly incidents. Subsequently, bodies of two Hindus were found.

Three more bodies were found yesterday, including that of a 14-year-old boy. The sad part is that the police are focusing more on extracting false statements from victims like Makhan Din, while the real culprit is still absconding. Till date, about 30 persons have been charged under PSA or UAPA. There is very little evidence of this. There are indications that there are more people within and outside the border who are trying to divide our country.

These are the people who are fuelling communal tension in the sensitive border district. The authorities must expedite the identification and arrest of the real culprits. All of them must work in the right direction so that peace and communal harmony can be maintained.
