Jharkhand: Alert issued after cases of bird flu were reported in Ranchi’s poultry farm, 2196 birds along with 1745 chickens were killed in the farm, avian influenza H5N1 confirmed in the sample.

The spread of bird flu has been confirmed in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. 2196 birds along with 1745 chickens have been killed in the Regional Poultry Farm in Hotwar area of the city. Apart from this, 1697 eggs have been destroyed. The matter came to light after the samples of chickens were tested in the government laboratory located in Bhopal. Avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed in the sample. This virus causes disease in birds. The district administration has issued an alert.

Ban on buying and selling of eggs

The purchase, sale and transportation of chickens, their related products and eggs within a radius of one kilometer from the area where the infection has been confirmed has been banned with immediate effect. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha has constituted Rapid Response Team and veterinary officers and personnel have been deputed in each team. The deputed officials and personnel have been instructed to work in coordination with the District Animal Husbandry Officer and Assistant Director, Poultry Farm, Regional Poultry Farm, Hotwar Ranchi.

Cleaning and disinfection work

It has been told that under the action plan, RRT is to kill the remaining poultry farm chickens, dispose of them scientifically and then complete cleaning and disinfection of the infected area scientifically. Under the action plan, survey work related to poultry farming will be conducted within a radius of one kilometer from the epicentre, so that decisions regarding it can be taken at the administrative level. The team has been instructed to make a map of the area within a radius of 10 kilometers from the epicenter and mark it as a surveillance zone and carry out intensive monitoring of avian influenza in this area.
