Jharkhand: Jharkhand Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday said the state government should focus on the development of the “poorest people” instead of “talking too much”. Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren gave green signal to caste-based survey in the state on the lines of neighboring state Bihar. This statement of Radhakrishnan has come shortly after this.
When asked whether such a survey would benefit the people of Jharkhand? Governor Radhakrishnan said, “Everyone knows about the demography of the state. Instead of talking about a lot, we should focus on the development of the poorest of the poor,” Radhakrishnan said while talking to reporters on the occasion of completion of one year of tenure as Governor.
Reforms in education appreciated
He also praised the rapid provision of piped water supply in remote areas and the improvement in primary level education. Radhakrishnan said, “About eight percent (houses) in Jharkhand had the facility of piped water supply and the number of these houses has now reached between 35 percent to 38 percent.
The Governor of Jharkhand further said, I hope it gets better. We will complete 60 percent work by next year.” He said that there is a need to pay special attention to improving higher education at the university level. The Governor said that there is also a need to pay more attention to housing, irrigation and forest development in the state.
What did CM Champai Soren say?
In fact, on February 18, Jharkhand CM Champai Soren had said that on the lines of Bihar, there will be a caste-based survey in Jharkhand too. He had written on Post Jharkhand is ready.” The CM has asked the state officials to prepare a draft of caste-based survey. So that it can be placed before the cabinet for approval.” He had also said that the government will soon start work on caste survey in the state. If everything goes according to plan, there will be a caste survey in Jharkhand after the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
