JHARKHAND GOVT: Under the chairmanship of Hemant Soren, the proposal to change the name of ‘Atal Mohalla Clinic’ to ‘Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinic’ was approved, BJP expressed displeasure and called it an insult to the former PM

These days, the trend of changing names and renaming is in full swing in the country. Politics is also being fierce about this. Names of many cities were changed in Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, if we talk about Jharkhand, a state rich in water, forest and minerals, then the cabinet led by the Hemant Soren government had earlier passed a proposal to change the name of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University located in Ranchi to Veer Budhu Bhagat University.

The political battle in Jharkhand over the naming of the university had not yet cooled down, meanwhile, on Thursday (July 24), in the cabinet meeting held in the Jharkhand Ministry under the chairmanship of the state Chief Minister Hemant Soren, 21 proposals were approved, including one such proposal which has once again created a political uproar in the state.

The name of Atal Mohalla Clinic was changed

In fact, in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the name of Atal Mohalla Clinic started by the BJP government on the lines of Delhi’s Mohalla Clinic has been changed. The Atal Mohalla Clinic running in Jharkhand will now be known as Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinic. This proposal was approved in the cabinet meeting, over which the BJP has expressed displeasure.

‘This is an insult to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’
Jharkhand BJP state spokesperson Pratul Shahdev has called this decision of the government an insult to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He has also accused the Hemant government of appeasement. The spokesperson says that the Jharkhand Cabinet has insulted the state creator by deciding to change the name of Atal Mohalla Clinic to Mother Teresa Advance Clinic. This has once again exposed the appeasement face of the government.

He said that famous British writers Christopher Hitchens and Arup Chatterjee, in their books, had made serious allegations against Mother Teresa’s organization of conversion in the name of service. In 2021, the Government of India refused to renew the FCRA license of the Missionaries of Charity. The reason for which was said to be involvement in anti-constitutional and conversion activities.

‘Mother Teresa made a significant contribution in the field of health’

On the other hand, reacting to the decision taken by the cabinet, Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has said that it has been decided to rename the Atal Clinic as Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinic, because Mother Teresa has made a wonderful contribution in the field of health. While listing the achievements of his government, he said that after women, the elderly, now the state government is taking many steps to provide better health facilities and social security to the disabled as well.

BJP had launched the ‘Atal Mohalla Clinic’ scheme

Let us tell you that former Chief Minister Raghuvar Das had launched the ‘Atal Mohalla Clinic’ scheme on the first death anniversary of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee in August 2019 to overcome the lack of quality health services in urban slums. At present, a total of 140 Atal Mohalla Clinics are functioning in the state, which provide free and primary health services, which has now been renamed as “Mother Teresa Advanced Health Clinic”.
