Jharkhand: Hemant Soren resigned after ED inquiry, while state transport minister Champai Soren was elected the leader of the legislative party, know in detail why this situation happened in Jharkhand?

Hemant Soren was arrested from the post of Chief Minister of Jharkhand by ED on Wednesday night. He is not only accused of army land scam but also has other allegations. On Wednesday, ED interrogated Hemant Soren for several hours. ED had issued a total of ten summons to Hemant Soren but he was not appearing before the ED. On Monday, the ED team reached his Delhi residence but Hemant Soren was not found there either. ED team recovered BMW car and Rs 36 lakh during investigation. Now let us understand what is the allegation against Hemant Soren.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren was arrested on Wednesday (January 31) night. After resigning from the post of Chief Minister, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Soren in a money laundering case. He was arrested in the alleged land scam. In this way, he has become the third Chief Minister of the state, who has to face arrest. Before Soren, his father Shibu Soren and Madhu Koda were also arrested.

Hemant Soren took over as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand on December 29, 2019. ED interrogated him for about seven hours before arresting him. After being arrested, former CM Hemant Soren was taken to the ED office, where he was medically examined. At the same time, after Soren leaves the post, state Transport Minister Champai Soren will be made the Chief Minister. Know, what is land scam?
A case of land scam worth crores and related money laundering has been registered against Hemant Soren. The whole matter is of army land spread over 8.46 acres. This plot is located in Badgai, Ranchi. It has 12 plots which are allotted in the names of different people. ED had also interrogated Hemant Soren in this regard on January 20. In Ranchi, ED talked to Hemant Soren for about 7 hours. Before January 20, ED had issued a total of 7 summons to Soren. The first summons against him was issued on 14 August 2023.

ED alleges that fake documents were used to take possession of army land worth crores and money worth crores was laundered on a large scale in the entire case. In the land scam, ED had said that fake buyers and sellers were created using fake documents and the original records were falsified. ED says that Hemant Soren is involved in the entire case. The investigating agency has attached total assets worth Rs 236 crore of the accused in this case.

14 people already arrested
Revenue sub-inspector Bhanu Pratap of the region has been arrested in the Jharkhand land scam. The agency has arrested a total of 14 people in this case. Among them is 2011 batch IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan. On April 13, 2023, ED had raided 22 locations in Jharkhand as well as Bihar and West Bengal in this case.

After tightening the noose of ED in the whole matter, Hemant Soren had also approached the Supreme Court but did not get any relief from the Supreme Court. The court had asked to go to the High Court. ED had told the court that Hemant Soren violated the rules by not appearing despite the summons. After which the pressure on him increased even more.

Case of illegal mining also against Soren
Apart from the land scam, a case related to illegal mining is also registered against Hemant Soren. In this also he is accused of money laundering. This illegal mining is from Sahebganj. Hemant Soren is accused of giving the mining lease in the year 2021. Giving the lease was against election rules. However, ED has already interrogated Soren in this case.

What happened in Jharkhand on Wednesday?

The ED team reached Hemant Soren’s residence amid tight security at 1 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
ED team started interrogating Hemant Soren. A lot of questions and answers were asked to him regarding the alleged land scam.
Hemant Soren lodged an FIR against ED officials under SC-ST Act at 3.30 pm.
As soon as the news of the arrest was received through ED, MLAs of supported parties including JMM and Congress started reaching the CM residence at 5.30.
To keep the atmosphere under control, Section 144 was imposed by the administration at 6.30 pm.
To keep the security system under control, police captains in all the districts of Jharkhand were asked to be on alert at 7.30.
In Ranchi, all the Grand Alliance MLAs sought time from the Governor between 7:50 to 8 pm.
At 8 pm, Champai Soren was elected the leader of the legislative party and thus it was decided that he would become the CM.
Hemant Soren reached Raj Bhavan at 8.30 pm and submitted his resignation to the Governor, which was accepted.
The meeting time was given by the Governor between 9 to 9.30 am and the MLAs met him.
On behalf of the MLAs, the Governor was asked to administer the oath of office to Champai Soren as Chief Minister as soon as possible.
At around 10 pm, ED arrested Hemant Soren.
After the arrest of Hemant Soren, Section 144 was imposed within 100 meters of CM House, Raj Bhavan and ED office till further orders.
Around 11 pm, the medical team reached the ED office with the ambulance, where Hemant Soren’s medical checkup was done.
In the night itself, Hemant Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren reached the ED office with her son to meet the JMM leader.

What is going to happen today?

Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Hemant Soren has been arrested by ED. In such a situation, Thursday is going to be very important for him. Hemant Soren, arrested in the money laundering case related to the land scam, will be presented in the court today at 10 am.

The MLAs met Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday night and requested him to administer the oath of office to Champai Soren as Chief Minister as soon as possible. However, the Governor has not yet given time for the oath. According to sources, the Governor will take oath on Thursday.

After the arrest of ED, Hemant Soren has reached Jharkhand High Court. He has filed a petition against the action of the Enforcement Directorate. The bench of High Court Chief Justice Chandrashekhar and Justice Anubha Rawat Chaudhary will hear his petition at 10.30 am today.

Tribal organizations have demonstrated against the arrest of Hemant Soren. Tribal organizations have called a bandh in the state on Thursday. Central Sarna Committee Chairman Ajay Tirkey has said that 15 to 20 organizations are going to participate in the bandh. The bandh is not going to affect emergency services.
