In Jharkhand, an old man was killed on the charges of witchcraft and black magic. The women of the village beat the old man with sticks and rods accusing him of black magic and then killed him by crushing him with stones. On the complaint of the old man’s son, the police have detained five women. The accused women have accepted that they killed the old man.
The case is of Jarga Tetartoli village under Angada police station area of the capital Ranchi. The women of the village have killed 60-year-old Baleshwar Oraon, a resident of this place. The incident took place on May 28. The accused women accused the old man Baleshwar of practicing black magic, exorcism and witchcraft. They say that Baleshwar Oraon used to threaten to kill the people of the village through black magic and witchcraft. The women were very upset with his threats.
The body was thrown into the canal after the murder
On Tuesday evening, the women of the village gathered and attacked Baleshwar with sticks. He was beaten and severely injured. In anger, the women crushed him to death with stones. After the murder, the accused women pressurized the family of the deceased and got the body of the elderly thrown into the canal.
Five women arrested
The deceased’s son Anil Oraon complained about the incident to the police. Based on his statement, Angada police registered a case against Anima Munda, Juliani Tirkey, Somri Devi, Duliya Oraon and Dashmi Devi of the village and arrested them. During police interrogation, all five women accepted their involvement in the murder. On the information given by the arrested women, the police also recovered two sticks and a big stone used in the murder.
Elderly couple has been murdered before also
Earlier also, in Hesla village of Ladhup Panchayat under Chandwa police station area of Latehar district of Jharkhand, the villagers first called a panchayat accusing an elderly couple of being witches and then killed both of them by beating them with sticks in the panchayat. The police took action in this case and arrested more than a dozen accused. A case was registered against them for murdering the elderly couple due to superstition like witch hunting.
