A massive explosion has rocked the Nowgam police station in south Srinagar, leaving several people feared dead. The incident occurred at around 11:20 pm on November 14, 2025. The powerful explosion at Nowgam police station in Srinagar was heard far and wide, followed by a fire. Initial reports described it as a “massive explosion,” but Jammu and Kashmir police officials have confirmed that it was not a terrorist attack but an accidental explosion. The incident occurred during a routine inspection and sampling process involving a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, local police personnel, and a tehsildar (revenue officer).
Videos from the scene show widespread devastation in the police station’s parking area. Numerous vehicles, including police cars, were reduced to ashes, and debris was scattered far and wide. The thick smoke from the explosion shattered windows of nearby homes and buildings, including in neighboring areas such as Rawalpora. Nine people have died in the incident, while 29 others are reported injured.

The blast is believed to have been caused by a large quantity of ammonium nitrate-based explosive material seized at the police station. These materials were seized in early November as part of an investigation into a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist module. This module, which included radicalized professionals such as doctors and clerics, came to light when JeM propaganda posters appeared.
Terrorist Blast in Delhi
Earlier, a new terrorist module was discovered in Delhi, consisting of radicalized professionals such as doctors and religious figures, and it was initially exposed when Jaish-e-Mohammed propaganda posters appeared in the Nowgam area on October 19, 2025. The investigation resulted in several arrests in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, and the seizure of over 2,900 kg of explosives, chemical substances and weapons, some of which were linked to the deadly car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, 2025, which killed at least 12 people and injured 20 others.
