J&K Loksabha Election:-The Jammu and Kashmir administration has transferred several officers, including deputy commissioners. The Election Commission had directed the state a few weeks ago to transfer officers posted in their home districts to other districts where elections are to be held. Now more than 30 police officers, including IGP, DIG, have been transferred in Kashmir. New police chiefs have been appointed in many districts. The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the assembly elections on Friday afternoon. However, it is not yet clear for which states the election schedule will be announced.
The Election Commission plans to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir before September 30, as the Supreme Court has set this deadline. The Election Commission has also visited Jammu and Kashmir and reviewed the election preparations. In such a situation, there is every possibility that the Election Commission will announce the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections in the press conference. Assembly elections have not been held in Jammu and Kashmir since the removal of Article 370. In June this year, voting took place there for the first time after 2019.
Order issued late night
The General Administration Department of Jammu and Kashmir issued orders for the transfer and posting of 89 officers with immediate effect late on Thursday night. The officers who have been transferred include Deputy Commissioners of Poonch and Bandipora districts, Secretaries, Commissioners, Directors General, Managing Directors and Directors of several departments. On July 31, the Election Commission had asked the administration of the Union Territory to transfer those officers who are posted in their home districts.
Elections to be held soon in Haryana, Maharashtra
The terms of the assemblies of Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand will end on November 3, November 26 and January 5 respectively. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had said on August 9, after his two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to review the election preparations of the Union Territory, that the assembly elections would be held “as soon as possible” and no internal or external force would be allowed to interfere with it. This visit of the Election Commission was the first major exercise to prepare the ground for holding the first assembly elections after the repeal of Article 370 and declaring Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory on August 5, 2019.
