Justice Verma completely rejected the news of finding bundles of notes in his official residence and suspected a conspiracy. What was said in the Justice Verma cash scandal report?

Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Verma has completely rejected the fact that crores of rupees in cash was found at his house. He has called this whole matter a conspiracy. He has denied the fact that money was found at his official residence. In the internal inquiry report submitted by Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay to the Chief Justice of India, a conspiracy has been mentioned quoting Justice Verma. The Supreme Court has made public the report of the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Yashwant Verma’s reply, pictures and videos related to the incident late on Saturday night.

According to the internal inquiry report (which the Delhi High Court has submitted to the CJI), Justice Verma has clearly said that on the day this incident happened, he and his wife were out of the house. When the fire broke out around midnight, his daughter and his personal secretary informed the fire brigade. When the fire brigade team reached there to extinguish the fire, during this time all the employees and my family members were asked to move away from the spot in view of safety. After the fire was extinguished and when they went back to the spot, the family members or the staff did not see any cash on the spot.

What else did Justice Verma say in his clarification?

Justice Verma said that I am clearly saying that neither I nor any member of my family ever kept any cash and I also strongly condemn the fact that the alleged cash was ours. Verma said that he was never aware of the cash lying in the store room built outside the residence. He said that the statement that we kept the cash is completely absurd.

Justice Verma further said that the place where the fire broke out is a room which is completely different from where I live. I just wish that some investigation would have been done before allegations were made against me and defamation was done in the press. Justice Verma said that I was never aware of any money or cash lying in the storeroom of the outhouse. He said that neither any sack of burnt notes was shown to us nor handed over to us. I completely deny and reject this allegation.

3-member committee formed for investigation

The CJI has formed a three-member committee for investigation in the Justice Verma case. This committee includes Justice Sheel Nagu, Justice Sandhawalia and Justice Shivraman. CJI Sanjeev Khanna has asked Justice Verma to stay away from judicial work.

What is the whole matter?

Actually, on March 14, at around 11.35 pm on the night of Holi, a fire broke out in Justice Verma’s government bungalow. He was out of Delhi. His family members called the fire brigade to extinguish the fire. A large number of police forces came to extinguish the fire. During this time, a large amount of cash was allegedly found there. Since the matter came to light, many questions are being raised. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has made public a report, which was about the fire in Justice Yashwant Verma’s house.

The Chief Justice of Delhi High Court has said in the report that on March 15, when I was in Lucknow due to Holi holidays, at around 4.50 pm, I got a call from the Delhi Police Commissioner, in which he informed me about the fire incident in Justice Verma’s residential complex.

What was said in the report?

The High Court Chief Justice Upadhyay has given detailed information to the CJI in the report and said that the matter needs further investigation. The report says that after this, I spoke to you the same evening and on your instructions, requested the Delhi Police Commissioner to find out from which source the PCR call was made. Along with this, some other information was also sought from Police Commissioner Arora, in response to which the Police Commissioner told on March 16 that PCR was called by the judge’s personal secretary from a mobile number, which is registered in the name of Delhi High Court.

It is also told that the fire brigade was not informed separately, although after contacting PCR, the information related to the fire was automatically sent to Delhi Fire Brigade. The Police Commissioner also told that the store room is next to the guard room, where Central Reserve Police Force (Battalion 70 F) is deployed and the store room was kept closed.

The Chief Justice said that I have been told that according to the security guard posted at Justice Verma’s house, some debris and half burnt items were removed in the morning. He has said in the report that after getting detailed information, I visited the spot with the officials and gave all the information to you (CJI).

According to the investigation report of Delhi High Court Chief Justice DK Upadhyay, four to five half-burnt bundles of Indian currency were found.
