Justin Trudeau Response To Donald Trump: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reacted to the statement of US President-elect Donald Trump in which he said that Canada could become the 51st state of America. Trudeau has termed Trump’s statements as a diversionary tactic. Trudeau said in an interview to CNN, “This is not going to happen. Canadians are very proud to be Canadians. The easiest way to define us is that we are not Americans.”
‘American people will have to bear the brunt’
US President-elect Donald Trump has in recent times given an open offer to Canada to become the 51st state and has threatened to impose heavy tariffs on it. In such a situation, Trudeau has now said that if such tariffs are implemented, the American people will have to bear the brunt of increased prices. Trudeau said, “Everything that American customers buy from Canada, including oil, gas, electricity, steel, aluminum, lumber, concrete, will suddenly become very expensive if they go ahead with these tariffs.”
Trudeau mentioned the 2018 trade dispute
Justin Trudeau also mentioned the use of counter tariffs by Canada during the 2018 trade dispute, which included American goods such as Heinz ketchup, playing cards, bourbon and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Trudeau said, “We don’t want to do that because it raises prices for Canadians and hurts our closest trading partner.”
