Kanker: One Maoist killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists, search operation still underway

An encounter broke out between security forces and Maoists in the border area of ​​​​Kanker district of Chhattisgarh, in which a Maoist was killed. According to police officials, the encounter took place in the border area of ​​​​Kanker and Narayanpur districts on Sunday, when the security forces went out on patrol as part of an anti-Naxal operation.

How did the encounter start?

Officials said that the security forces had received information about the presence of Maoists in the North Bastar-Maad division, after which a joint team of Border Security Force (BSF) and District Reserve Guard (DJARJI) personnel was sent to patrol the area. At around 12:30 pm on Sunday, when the security forces were patrolling the area, the Maoists suddenly started firing at them. The security forces also retaliated and an encounter started between the two sides.

Weapons recovered from the spot

According to officials, after the encounter, the security forces searched the spot and recovered the body of a uniformed Maoist. Apart from this, an SLR rifle and other items were recovered from there. Officials said that the identity of the killed Naxalite has not been ascertained yet. There is also a possibility of other Naxalites being killed or injured in this encounter. At present, the search operation is still going on in the area.

Encounter incidents this year?

So far 50 Maoists have been killed in different encounters in Chhattisgarh this year. Security forces killed 8 Maoists in an encounter in Bijapur district on Saturday. Last year, security forces killed 219 Maoists during various encounters in the state.
