While the Congress party was still pondering its defeat in the Bihar elections, it now faces the headache of Karnataka. Speculation about a leadership change in the state is growing. A group of Karnataka Congress leaders close to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar arrived in New Delhi on Thursday and met with Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting took place late at night.
This meeting further fueled rumors of a power struggle within the ruling Congress in Karnataka. According to earlier reports, a minister and some MLAs close to Shivakumar had gone to Delhi to meet senior party leaders. No information has been shared about the Karnataka leaders’ visit to Delhi or their conversation with the Congress president. Details are currently kept confidential. This meeting comes just a day after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah completed two and a half years in office.

Siddaramaiah appointed CM in 2023
After Congress’s victory in the 2023 assembly elections, there was a fierce competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the post of Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah was then appointed Chief Minister of Karnataka, while Shivakumar was given the responsibility of Deputy Chief Minister. This agreement was brokered by the Congress high command.
‘My position has been strong from the beginning’
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah’s statement has also alluded to rumors of an extension of his term. CM Siddaramaiah said that he will complete his full five-year term. On November 20, he completely dismissed the rumors and reports of the November Revolution, saying that this term was created by the media. He emphasized that his position has been strong from the beginning and will remain so in the future. Siddaramaiah’s statement has also alluded to rumors of an extension of his term. CM Siddaramaiah stated that he will complete his full five-year term.
“We have been given five years.”
Siddaramaiah told the media that he coined the term “kranti,” so there’s no confusion between “kranti” and “kranti.” “We have been given five years to govern. Elections will be held in five years, and we will win again.”
When asked if he would remain in office for the full five years, he replied, “What does that mean? This is nonsense. I told the party high command that a cabinet reshuffle could be considered after two and a half years. Only then did these discussions about power sharing begin.”
The matter has been pending since August.
In fact, the issue of whether to change the leadership in Karnataka has been pending with Rahul Gandhi since August, but no decision has been reached. The party believes that a cabinet reshuffle should only take place if a leadership change is necessary. Approving the cabinet reshuffle before then would send a message that Siddaramaiah will remain CM. That’s why DK Shivakumar is also currently not in favor of cabinet reshuffle. According to sources, it was agreed in Karnataka that Siddaramaiah would become Chief Minister if the government was formed, but later DK Shivakumar would be given the position.
