Karnataka: Amid speculations of change of power, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that his chair is not vacant, but he still says that the Chief Minister will be changed, know the reason

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday said that his chair is not vacant, but still journalists are giving such news that there is going to be a change of power in the state. He clarified that there is no confusion between him and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. In fact, Siddaramaiah took a dig at “speculative journalism” regarding media reports that Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will soon replace him.

“News based on assumptions”

At the Press Club of Bangalore (PCB) Awards-2024, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “There is no confusion between us but journalists are still writing that ‘CM will be changed’. My chair is not vacant, but they still say that the Chief Minister will be changed.” He said news reports were made on the basis of assumptions though nothing of the sort had happened.

What did he say on dinner meetings?

“If people gather for dinner, it becomes news based on speculation that such discussions must have taken place though we are discussing something else and not what is mentioned there (in the news),” Siddaramaiah said. He was referring to dinner meetings organised by ministers that became a topic of discussion in the corridors of power.

“News should be close to the truth”

The chief minister asked journalists to keep society and conscience in mind while reporting. “These days, journalism based on speculation is at the centre stage. This is a dangerous trend. You should verify whether it is true or false. At least your news should be close to the truth,” he said. Siddaramaiah stressed on healthy criticism, saying it helps people to improve and take corrective measures.
