The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka on Monday warned the ruling Congress that the party will disrupt assembly proceedings if the suspension of its 18 MLAs is not withdrawn. The BJP alleged that the Congress intends to run the House without our MLAs. Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said that his party MLAs are fighting to maintain the Constitution.

The BJP leader said that I warn the Congress that if the suspension is not withdrawn, our struggle will intensify. Let’s see how you (Congress) run the assembly session in future.

18 BJP MLAs suspended

There was a lot of uproar in the Karnataka Assembly on Friday. After this 18 BJP MLAs were suspended. These MLAs were demanding a probe by a sitting High Court judge into the alleged honey-trap, in which a minister and other MLAs are being accused of involvement. The opposition BJP MLAs were picked up and thrown out by the marshals of the Karnataka Assembly. Karnataka Congress leaders supported the decision and said that the opposition MLAs insulted the House by tearing documents and insulting the dignity of Parliament.

Sloganeering with CDs in hand
BJP and JD(S) MLAs went to the well of the House and protested and raised slogans with CDs in their hands. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured a high-level investigation. In fact, Cooperation Minister KH Rajanna informed the Assembly on Thursday that attempts were made to trap him in a honeytrap and at least 48 leaders have fallen prey to such conspiracies.

Strict action against the culprits
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that Rajanna has talked about the honeytrap attempt. Home Minister G Parameshwara has assured a high-level investigation. Rajanna should file a complaint. All Congress, BJP and JD(S) members will be given security. CM Siddaramaiah also said that the government will ensure the safety of all citizens and take strict action against the culprits.

Demand for investigation headed by a High Court judge
Home Minister Parameshwara reiterated that Rajanna intends to file a complaint and has demanded an investigation, but has not yet formally filed a complaint. Opposition leaders asked the government to clarify the nature of the investigation and demanded an inquiry headed by a sitting High Court judge. Leader of Opposition R Ashok said, Rajanna has alleged the involvement of central leaders, ministers and political figures from all parties. The government should order a judicial inquiry into the matter.
