Karnataka: Villagers in Bellary dug borewells in Vedavathi river due to water shortage, water level has fallen due to heat and public borewells have become empty

As soon as summer starts, the problem of water shortage also starts. Similarly, due to water shortage in Bellary, Karnataka, the villagers have dug borewells in the Vedavathi river. Due to heat, the water level has fallen and public borewells have become empty. The situation is serious in Rupangudi, Kammaracheda and Raravi villages. People and animals are facing difficulties due to the drying up of the river.

Water is being supplied to Rupangudi and Kammaracheda villages from boreholes dug in the Vedavathi river. Currently, there is three inches of water in those borewells, but this water is not enough for people and animals. The population of Rupangudi village is 7000, while the population of Kammaracheda village is more than 4000. However, despite all this, there is still a shortage of water. In such a situation, people are worried about what will happen by the end of summer.

Forced to dig borewells

Due to water shortage, people of Rarvi village in Sirguppa taluka are also forced to dig borewells in the Vedavathi river. Only pipes are visible on the river banks. Depending on the water of the Vedavathi river, many different crops like rice and maize are grown on more than one lakh acres of land. However, now there is no water in the river, due to which the farmers are worried.

Complaints of lack of drinking water

People are worried about how many more problems they will have to face before the summer ends. People are complaining of lack of drinking water. Apart from this, gram panchayats are pumping water into the river bed by making holes in the ground. People believe that if this continues like this, it will become difficult.
