Karnataka: With the surrender of one more naxal, the state is now Naxal free, till now 21 naxalites have surrendered in Karnataka.

Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka): The southern state of Karnataka is now Naxal-free. Another Naxalite has surrendered in Chikkamagaluru district. This step is being considered an important step towards making Karnataka a Naxal-free state. Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Vikram Amathe told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “With the surrender of this Naxalite, Karnataka has now become a Naxal-free state.”

Surrendered before SP

Kotehonda Ravindra (44) is a resident of Kotehonda of Hulgaru Bail near Kigga in Sringeri taluk and was living in the forest. On Friday, he came from Sringeri and surrendered before Superintendent of Police Amathe. Ravindra was taken to Deputy Commissioner Meena Nagaraj where the formal process of surrender was completed. Amathe said, “Ravindra was an ‘A’ category Naxalite under the new surrender policy implemented on March 14, 2024.

The government will give this much money under the surrender package

Under the surrender package, he will get Rs 7.5 lakh from the government. If he wishes, he will be given skill training and he will also be given a monthly package of Rs 5000. According to the police, a total of 27 cases are registered against Ravindra, out of which 13 cases are registered in Chikmagaluru. Amathe also told that so far 21 Naxalites have surrendered in Karnataka. According to the police, Ravindra was involved in Naxal activities in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and was underground since 2007.

Efforts to make Chhattisgarh Naxal-free too

Let us tell you that the central government is working in collaboration with the state governments to eliminate Naxalites. In this episode, efforts are being made to make Chhattisgarh, the most Naxal-affected state, Naxal-free. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said many times that Chhattisgarh will be Naxal-free by March 2026. Even in December 2024, he said that Chhattisgarh Police has achieved great success in the fight against Naxalism in the last one year and the central and state governments are committed to eradicate it before March 31, 2026.
