The Kerala government has announced an increase of Rs 10 per liter in the excise duty on liquor in the second full budget. Apart from this, it was also announced to impose cess on petrol and diesel. Finance Minister KN Balagopal, while presenting the budget for the financial year 2024-25, laid more emphasis on increasing revenue and profits.
During this, the Finance Minister of Kerala announced an increase of excise duty on Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) by Rs 10 per liter. Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that this increase is expected to generate additional revenue of Rs 200 crore. In fact, the Kerala government is also planning to issue more foreign liquor retail licenses.
Increase in electricity rates in Kerala
Many big announcements were made in the budget along with increase in liquor prices and electricity rates. In the budget, the duty of those who generate their own electricity was increased from 1.2 paise to 15 paise. Additional revenue of Rs 224 crore is expected from this. The Finance Minister said that since 1963, electricity duty is being imposed at the rate of 6 paise per unit on the sale of electricity.
It has been increased to 10 paise per unit. Additional revenue of Rs 101.41 crore is expected. At the same time, lease stamp duty rates have also been increased. It has also been announced to increase court related fees. Apart from this, the MSP of rubber was increased by Rs 10 to Rs 180.
Investment of Rs 3 lakh crore in 3 years
Presenting the fourth budget for the Pinarayi government, the Finance Minister said that investment worth Rs 3 lakh crore will be brought to Kerala in the next three years. He said that Rs 1698 crore will be set aside for the traditional agriculture sector. An investment of Rs 5000 crore will be made in the tourist sector. He said that the tourism sector is growing. Rs 351 crore is being allocated for this in the financial year 2024-25.
