Nation Building: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday (March 25) made a big statement about the safety of minorities in India. He said that minorities are completely safe in the country and the truth of those who spread false rumors to the contrary should come out. He also emphasized that minority communities have always played an important role in nation building and will continue to do so.
Rijiju was addressing the National Conference of State Minority Commissions organized by the National Commission for Minorities (NCM). Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Developed India 2047’, he said that the participation of all communities is necessary in taking the country forward and the minority community will play an important role in this direction. He said that the aim of the government is to give equal opportunities to all citizens so that they can contribute to the development of the nation.
Statement on population during Haj conference
Referring to his recent visit to Saudi Arabia, Kiren Rijiju said that ministers from 80 countries were present during the Haj conference. During this, an Indonesian minister said that his country has the largest Muslim population in the world. To this, Rijiju replied that if a census is conducted in India, it is possible that the population of Muslims may be more than that of Indonesia. However, he also said that the exact figures are not available right now because the 2021 census could not be conducted due to the Covid pandemic.
Minorities are protected under the Constitution
Rijiju stressed that India is a democratic and constitution-based country where all religions and communities have equal rights. He said that the governance of the country is governed by the Constitution which ensures the safety of all citizens. He appealed not to pay attention to the misleading information being spread about the condition of minorities in India and recognize the truth.
