Know when the name is deleted from the voter list, how to check whether your name is in the voter list or not and how to add your name to the list in time.

Just before the elections in Bihar, the Election Commission is revising the voter list. The Election Commission has made it clear that voter ID and Aadhaar will not be valid in this process. The matter has reached the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed the state election officials to conduct a thorough examination of the voter list across the country. It is claimed that fake voters can be separated through this process.

It is necessary to have a name in the voter list to vote in the election. Many times before voting, it is known that the name of the voter is not in the list. Know, when the name is deleted from the voter list, how to check whether it is in the voter list or not and how to add your name to the list in time.

When is the name deleted from the voter list? 7 major reasons
1- On change of address
When a person permanently shifts from one assembly constituency to another and gets a voter ID card made at the new address, then the name is deleted from the list of the old address. For example, if you have shifted from Lucknow to Jaipur and have updated your voter ID there, then your name will be removed from the voter list of Lucknow.

2- On death of voter
If a person dies and his family informs the BLO or election office about it, then his name can be removed from the list. A death certificate is required for this.

3- On not voting for a long time
If a voter does not vote continuously for many years and no activity of his is recorded, then his name can be removed by considering it ‘inactive’. The Election Commission checks his entry. If the person is not found in that area, then the name is removed. However, this process is done carefully and after notice.

4- On getting wrong information
If the information given in the entry of a voter is found to be wrong or fake such as wrong age, wrong address, or fake documents, then after investigation the Election Commission can remove the name. Sometimes, due to mistakes or changes in Aadhaar, address or other documents, the name of a voter can be removed from the voter list due to various technical reasons.

5- On becoming an NRI
If a voter voluntarily fills Form 7 to remove his name, then his name is removed from the voter list. Sometimes the voter himself requests that his name be removed from the list, like after becoming an NRI, he can voluntarily remove his name from the voter list.

6- Duplicate Entry
If the name of the same person is registered at two places, then after investigation, one entry can be removed. Sometimes due to technical reasons or mistake, the name of the same person is registered twice in the voter list. In such cases, the name of the voter is kept valid in one list and the rest of the entries are removed.

7- In case of non-confirmation during renewal/revision
Every year or before the election, the voter list is revised in your area, in which if a person does not update all his information by filling Form 6A, 7, 8 etc. on time or is absent in the confirmation of BLO, then his name can be removed from the voter list.

How to add name if name is deleted from voter list?
If you feel that your name has been removed from the voter list, then you can go to the Election Commission website (https://www.nvsp.in/) or local election office and fill Form 6 and re-register. Having a name in the voter list is the first step to participation in democracy. Check the voter list from time to time and if the name is missing, then add it again by following the correct procedure.
