A new political crisis has arisen in the oil-rich Gulf country Kuwait. Kuwait’s Amir Sheikh dissolved the country’s parliament on Friday. According to Kuwaiti media, the Emir has taken some government departments under his control after dissolving the parliament. Apart from this, Amir has also broken some laws of the country.
According to Kuwait News Agency KUNA, the Emir has issued orders to dissolve the National Assembly and suspend some articles of the constitution for more than four years. It is further written that Emir Sheikh Meshaal Al Ahmed Al Jaber is taking over the National Assembly.
Why was the Parliament dissolved?
“Kuwait has been going through difficult times recently, which has led to hesitation in taking tough decisions to save the kingdom and secure the country’s interests,” the emir said in a televised address announcing the dissolution of parliament. Or there is no scope for delay.” He further said that corruption has increased in many departments of the country in the last few years, due to corruption the environment of the country is deteriorating. Sadly, corruption has spread to security and economic institutions. Also, Ameer has talked about corruption in the justice system.
political crisis that has been going on for years
Kuwait has been surrounded by domestic political controversies for the last few years. The country’s welfare system has been a major issue in this crisis and has prevented the government from taking loans. Because of this, despite huge profits from its oil reserves, there is very little money left in the government treasury to pay salaries to public sector employees. Like other Arab countries, Kuwait also has a monarchy system with a Sheikh, but the legislature here is considered more powerful than the neighboring countries.
