Hearing was held in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday in the case of alleged land-for-job scam in railways. During this, CBI told the court that permission to prosecute 30 government employees in this case has been received from the concerned authority. The investigating agency also told that permission to prosecute an accused is still awaited. At the same time, CBI has already received prosecution approval against former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in this case. The next hearing of the case will be on December 23.
The case in which Lalu Prasad Yadav has been made an accused in the land-for-job scam is a case of the year 2004 to 2009. At that time Lalu Yadav was the Union Railway Minister. Apart from Lalu, charge sheets were filed against his wife Rabri Devi, his two daughters (Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav) and 12 other people in the case. According to the allegations of CBI, large-scale irregularities were done in giving jobs in the railways while Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister.
What is the case
According to the allegation, while Lalu Yadav was a minister, land and plots were taken from the applicants in exchange for getting them jobs in the railways. It was also alleged that the land taken from the applicants was taken in the name of Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi and daughter Misa Bharat. The central investigation agency had sought permission to run a case against former Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in this scam, the Home Ministry had given the approval. During the hearing on November 7, the Rouse Avenue Court had directed the competent authority to give approval within a week to prosecute the public servants accused in the case related to the Land for Job case. The court gave this direction when the CBI told them that the approval is pending with the competent authority in the Railway Board. It may take two weeks to get the approval.
CBI’s Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh had told the court that he has been informed that it may take two more weeks to get the approval to run the case. During that time, the court said that pressure has been put on the competent authority to expedite the process. Three charge sheets and two supplementary charge sheets were filed in the court. The court had directed that the competent authority should give approval within a week. The court had fixed the next hearing of the case for November 26.
