Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections is to be held on May 13. In this phase, elections will be held on 96 seats in 10 states including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. According to ADR report, a total of 1,717 candidates are contesting in the fourth phase. Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani of TDP, contesting from Guntur seat of Andhra Pradesh in the fourth phase, is the richest candidate. Pemmasani has declared his net worth to be more than Rs 5,705 crore. The poorest candidate is Katta Anand Babu, an independent candidate from Andhra Pradesh, who has declared his total assets as only Rs 7 in the affidavit.
According to the ADR report, Katta Anand Babu has claimed that he has only Rs 7. Anand Babu is contesting from Bapatla (SC) constituency of Andhra Pradesh. Similarly, Santosh Ubale, contesting from Maval in Maharashtra, has declared assets worth Rs 83, while Bhor Vikas Rohidas has declared assets worth Rs 90.
28 percent candidates are millionaires
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and National Election Watch have analyzed the election affidavits of 1,710 out of 1,717 candidates. According to ADR report, in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, 476 candidates (28 percent) have declared their assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. The average asset of the candidates is Rs 11.72 crore.
Telugu Desam Party’s Dr. Chandrashekhar Pemmasani, contesting from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, has assets worth more than Rs 5,705 crore, while Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy is at second place, with assets worth Rs 4,568 crore. Reddy is contesting from Chevella in Telangana.
According to a report published by ADR, out of 70 BJP candidates in the fourth phase, 65 or 93 percent are crorepatis. Whereas 56 candidates of Congress are millionaires. On the other hand, all the candidates fielded by Shiv Sena (UBT), Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), TDP, Bharat Rashtra Samiti and Shiv Sena are all millionaires.
Seven candidates of West Bengal’s ruling All India Trinamool Congress are crorepatis and 11 (58 percent) of the 19 Samajwadi Party candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore.
The average asset of BJP candidates in the fourth phase is Rs 101.77 crore, while the average asset of Congress candidates is Rs 23.66 crore. The candidates of Bahujan Samaj Party, which has fielded the maximum number of candidates (92) in the electoral fray, have the lowest average declared assets of Rs 1.94 crore.
In the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections, BJP has fielded 70 candidates, out of which 10 candidates have assets worth more than Rs 50 crore. About 44.3 percent of the party’s candidates declared assets between Rs 1 crore and Rs 10 crore. Only 5 candidates have assets less than Rs 1 crore.
Of the 61 Congress candidates, 7 have assets of more than Rs 50 crore. About eight percent have assets worth less than Rs 1 crore. On the other hand, out of 19 SP candidates, 8 candidates have assets between Rs 1 crore and Rs 10 crore. Out of 25 candidates of Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party, only one candidate has assets less than Rs 1 crore, while there are six candidates whose assets are more than Rs 50 crore. The fourth phase of Lok Sabha voting will take place on May 13. The fate of 1,710 candidates from 10 states and union territories will be sealed in EVMs.
