Madhubani: The campaign being run against human trafficking on the India-Nepal border of Madhubani has got a big success. The soldiers of the 48th battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) showed alertness and courage and foiled a major attempt of human trafficking at the Baldiya check post of Jaynagar. This action was taken on Sunday evening at the Baldiya check post, about 30 meters towards India from the India-Nepal international border pillar number 270/13.
12 minor children were freed
In this action, 12 minor children and a youth were freed from the clutches of smugglers and two human traffickers were arrested. After counseling, all the children and the arrested accused were handed over to the police, where the case was registered and handed over to the Jaynagar police station for further legal proceedings.
On Sunday evening, about 30 meters from the India-Nepal international border pillar number 270/13, the vigilant jawans of the SSB company’s Kamala border post stopped a group on suspicion of human trafficking during routine checking. After interrogation and checking of documents, it became clear that the said minors were being brought to India illegally from Nepal. The identity of the arrested human traffickers has been revealed after interrogation.
In this operation, 12 minor children and a youth were freed from the clutches of traffickers and two human traffickers have been arrested, who are being interrogated intensively. Prima facie, this case appears to be related to an organized human trafficking racket, which was being carried out for use in child labor, domestic work and other inhumane tasks in big cities of India.
After this successful operation, 48th Battalion SSB Commandant Govind Singh Bhandari praised the team and said, “The SSB is always vigilant against disgusting and inhuman activities like human trafficking in the border area. This action is the result of the readiness of our dutiful and vigilant soldiers. We will continue to make continuous efforts to stop any such activity in future as well.”
The India-Nepal border is considered very sensitive in terms of human trafficking. Every year hundreds of innocent children fall prey to this disgusting business due to false promises, greed and coercive pressure. These children are sold in metros for domestic labour, hotel-grocery shops and factories. This area has been marked as a ‘high-risk zone’ in the reports of international human rights organizations.
What will be the next action?
An intensive investigation is being conducted to expose the network of smugglers caught by the SSB. According to police sources, the search for many more names related to this action is on. If needed, coordination will be done with agencies of other states as well. This action of SSB Jaynagar is not only a big success but also a message that there is no place left for smuggling on the India-Nepal border.
