A tragic incident has been reported from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. A major accident occurred at Madan Mahal railway station on Saturday night at approximately 10:58 PM. Passengers disembarking from the Jan Shatabdi Express, which had arrived from Bhopal, did not use the platform but instead got off on the other side of the tracks, crossing the tracks without using the footbridge. They were then struck by a goods train coming from the direction of Jabalpur station. A total of six people were hit by the goods train. One of the three women died, while the other two women and three children were injured.

The GRP police have identified the deceased woman as 30-year-old Pushpa Soni. Pushpa, 40, worked in the laundry department of West Central Railway. The injured have been identified as 22-year-old Shivani Patel, a resident of Narsinghpur; 40-year-old Nanhi Bai, also a resident of Narsinghpur; 4-year-old Riti Patel; and 2-year-old Indrajeet Patel. Additionally, a 4-year-old child is in critical condition, and their identity has not yet been confirmed. All the injured were immediately admitted to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College Hospital, where they are receiving treatment. The 4-year-old child, due to their critical condition, has been admitted to the neurosurgery department.

Eyewitness vendor Shubham Jaiswal said that he was about to leave the station for home after finishing his work when he suddenly heard screams. Upon reaching the spot, he saw women and children lying on the tracks in serious condition. He immediately called the guard and, with the help of other vendors, lifted the injured from the tracks to the platform. They were then taken to the medical college by auto-rickshaw. According to Shubham, seeing the condition of the children, they immediately took them away in an auto-rickshaw. All of them were badly injured, and there were no men with them.

RPF, GRP, and police teams arrived at the scene.

Ankit Paroha, the ambulance driver who arrived at the scene after receiving information from the railway hospital, said that he received a call from the railway hospital informing him of an accident at the station. Passengers did not use the foot overbridge

GRP Station House Officer Sanjeevani Rajput said that the passengers, after alighting from the Janshatabdi Express, had descended onto the tracks to reach platform number four. They were then hit by a goods train. Preliminary investigation revealed that the passengers did not use the foot overbridge. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway. Additional SP Pallavi Shukla said that the entire matter is under investigation. The railway administration is also looking into whether there was any negligence on anyone’s part. One woman has died, and the other injured are undergoing treatment.

Instead of using the foot overbridge, they directly stepped onto the tracks

Jabalpur Collector Raghavendra Singh has instructed the Medical College administration to provide proper treatment to the injured. Following this, SDM Gorakhpur Anurag Singh visited the Medical College to assess the situation. According to the preliminary investigation, when the Janshatabdi Express arrived in Jabalpur from Bhopal, the passengers, instead of using the foot overbridge to change platforms, directly stepped onto the tracks. At that moment, a goods train was approaching rapidly, and six people were hit by the train. According to the police, a family from Narsinghpur needed to catch another train from platform number four. Due to the foot overbridge being far away, they attempted to cross the tracks, which led to the accident.
