Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav broke the long-standing practice of former Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chauhan. In fact, during the tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, there was a tradition of starting all government programs with Madhya Pradesh anthem, during which everyone used to stand and sing the song. However, current CM Mohan recently broke this tradition by sitting while the national anthem was being played in an event.
When CM Mohan reached the stage in the program, it was announced that Madhya Pradesh anthem would be played. After this, everyone present in the meeting stood at their places. Meanwhile, CM Mohan, sitting on his chair, gestured to the announcer that there was no need to stand, just keep sitting. After his gesture, everyone sat and listened to the Madhya Pradesh anthem. CM Mohan had come to attend a program of handing over appointment letters to the selected candidates in Madhya Pradesh State Civil Service, where he broke this practice.
What did CM Mohan say?
He said that we should stand during the national anthem, this is respect for us. If a university makes an anthem or a college makes an anthem, then they start making their own rules that our anthem should also be heard standing up like the national anthem, then what is this? The CM stressed that the Madhya Pradesh anthem should not be equated with the national anthem.
From which year did the rule start?
This decision of the CM has raised controversy, because in 2011, the BJP government of Madhya Pradesh had issued an ordinance making it mandatory to sing the Madhya Pradesh anthem in all government functions, schools and colleges. This move was opposed by political parties and social workers. The government then defended the decision by saying that the Madhya Pradesh anthem represents the culture of the state and should be sung without any objection.
Let us tell you that the Madhya Pradesh anthem was written by senior journalist Mahesh Srivastava. Then the then CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan chose him to write the anthem. Following the request of Culture Minister Laxmikant Sharma, Srivastava had prepared the national anthem in just two hours.
