Taking action in the case of water being mixed in petrol and diesel in the vehicles of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s convoy, the state government has lodged an FIR against the operator of Ratlam-based ‘Shakti Fuel Point’. Meanwhile, the state’s Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Govind Singh Rajput has given instructions to conduct a thorough investigation of all petrol pumps in the state.
Taking cognizance of the incident in Ratlam, Govind Singh said that it should be ensured that quality petrol and diesel is made available to the consumers under all circumstances. He also instructed senior officials to take necessary action by holding a meeting with the oil companies.
Investigation conducted by Food Department officials
Recently, in Ratlam’s Dosigaon (26 June), fuel was filled in many vehicles from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) petrol pump Shakti Fuel Point Dosigaon. But the vehicle stopped due to water in the diesel. All the vehicles in CM Mohan’s convoy broke down and had to be pushed and parked on the side of the road. This incident took a serious turn. The officials of the Food Department of Ratlam district immediately inspected the petrol pump.
BPCL said in its clarification that due to unusual heavy rains in the district, water entered the fuel storage tanks at its petrol pump in Ratlam, which caused this problem.
Pump samples sent to Indore
During the investigation, samples of petrol and diesel were taken and sent to BPCL’s Mangalia Lab in Indore. In this case, an FIR has been registered against the guilty pump operator under Section 377 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 under the provisions of Motor Spirit and High Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply, Distribution and Prevention of Malpractices) Order 2005.
Not only this, petrol (5995 liters) and diesel (10657 liters) present at the petrol pump have been seized and the pump has been sealed. Rashmi Arun Shami, Additional Chief Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, held a meeting with the officials of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited on June 27 in the context of this incident. She asked BPCL to give a detailed investigation report regarding the incident soon.
Information about petrol pumps should be online: Additional Chief Secretary
In view of the rainy season, oil companies were instructed to inspect all petrol pumps in Madhya Pradesh as per the prescribed checklist. Rashmi Shami said that during the inspection, it will be checked whether there is any leakage of water in the underground tanks of petrol pumps. If this is found, then take appropriate action to prevent water leakage and to provide diesel and petrol of the right quality to the consumers. It was also instructed in the meeting that every petrol pump should be inspected, and the investigation report of the regular inspections done daily and from time to time should be recorded online.
Rashmi Shami also instructed all the District Magistrates to form a team of officials from Food, Revenue, Weights and Measures and Oil Company to inspect all the petrol pumps in their area. During the inspection, instructions were given to prevent any kind of water leakage in the underground tanks of petrol pumps and to ensure the supply of diesel and petrol of the right quality from the nozzle of the petrol pump.
