Two people were electrocuted and several others injured when a truck carrying an idol of Goddess Durga for immersion in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, came in contact with a high-tension power line, officials said on Monday. ASP Anjana Tiwari said the incident occurred late Sunday night in the Gaura Bazaar area when a pipe on the truck carrying the idol came in contact with the power line, causing the current to flow.

35 people brought to hospital
The ASP said that according to initial reports, two people died and 10 to 15 others were injured due to electrocution. However, Nitin Yadav, the duty doctor at the government-run Victoria Hospital, said a total of 35 people were brought to the hospital. He said two of the injured died, while 33 others were admitted to various wards, including the ICU, for treatment. He said the injured are in stable condition.

The truck was carrying iron poles for decoration.
An idol installed for the Navratri festival in the Temar Bhita area of ​​the Gaura Bazar police station area was being transported for immersion on Sunday night. The truck carrying the idol was carrying iron poles for decoration. An eyewitness claimed that the iron poles collided with an 11,000 kilowatt power line, causing electrocution.

Names of the deceased:
The deceased have been identified as Chintu Vishwakarma (38) and Akhilesh Patel (48). Both were passengers on the truck. Police have registered a case and are investigating further. Upon receiving information about the incident, State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh, local MLA Ashok Rohani, District Magistrate Raghavendra Singh, and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay rushed to the hospital and assessed the situation.
