Maharashtra: A businessman from Dadar in Mumbai was found guilty by a court and fined ₹5,000 for feeding pigeons.

A businessman in Mumbai faced trouble for the habit of feeding pigeons. Nitin Sheth, a businessman residing in the Dadar area, was convicted and fined by the court in this case. This case is also noteworthy because this type of punishment is being described as a first of its kind.

During the police action, Nitin Sheth admitted his mistake. According to the police, the accused was feeding pigeons in a public place, despite a pre-existing ban on the practice. A case was registered based on the complaint, and further legal proceedings were completed.

A fine of Rs 5,000 imposed
The court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Nitin Sheth. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate B. Y. Misal of Bombay, while pronouncing the verdict on Monday, stated that the accused had committed an act under Section 223(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code) that could endanger human life, health, and safety. He was also charged under Section 271 of the BNS for negligently spreading a potentially fatal disease.

The court also noted in its order that this type of punishment is a first of its kind. It is being seen as a precedent to ensure that people do not take such restrictions lightly in the future.

It is worth noting that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has already banned feeding pigeons. A hearing on this issue was also held in the Bombay High Court last August.

At that time, the High Court upheld the ban on feeding pigeons in public places. The administration says that this step has been taken keeping in mind the health of the people and the cleanliness of the city.
