Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate’s troubles have increased. Ajit Pawar faction’s NCP leader Manikrao Kokate and his brother Sunil Kokate have been sentenced to jail by the Nashik District Court. The court has announced a 2-year sentence for both of them. The court has taken this action against the Agriculture Minister due to a case of 1995. The court has announced a sentence of 2 years and a fine of Rs 50,000.
A case of tampering with documents was registered against Manikrao Kokate and his brother in 1995. They were accused of tampering with some documents and committing fraud 30 years ago. Former minister Tukaram Dighole had filed a petition against them. After this, the Nashik District Court has now pronounced a verdict against Manikrao Kokate.
Who is Manikrao Kokate?
Manikrao Kokate is a veteran leader of Maharashtra. He is an MLA from Sinnar. 67-year-old Kokate Manikrao is a graduate professional as per his education records. He has total assets worth Rs 48.4 crore, which includes movable assets worth Rs 17.3 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 31.1 crore.
Manikrao Kokate entered the world of politics at a very young age. He started his political journey with Congress. After Congress, he joined Sharad Pawar’s NCP. When NCP refused to give him a ticket from Sinnar assembly constituency, he left the party and joined Shiv Sena. He won the 1999 and 2004 elections from Sinnar on a Shiv Sena ticket. Then he moved from Shiv Sena to Congress. After this, in 2009, he once again maintained his winning streak on this seat on a Congress ticket.
In 2014, he moved to BJP and this time he had to face defeat. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he contested as an independent from the Nashik seat and lost to the Shiv Sena candidate. After this, he once again joined the NCP.
