Earlier, Congress suffered a setback on June 18, 2025. Jayshree Patil, daughter-in-law of former Maharashtra Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Vasant Dada Patil, joined BJP along with hundreds of workers from Sangli district. During this, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule were also present.
Vasantdada Patil’s daughter-in-law leaving Congress will increase the strength of BJP in Western Maharashtra and especially the Maratha vote bank will come towards BJP. It is worth noting that Vasant Dada Patil was a prominent politician of Maharashtra, he was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress. He was also the CM of Maharashtra and the Governor of Rajasthan. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1967.
