A news that has brought a stir in Maharashtra politics has come to the fore. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Praful Lodha has been arrested on serious charges of honeytrap and sexual harassment. The strings of this case are said to be spread from Nashik to Jalgaon, and there is speculation that many big officers and leaders may also get caught in this trap.
The matter came into the limelight after Congress leader Nana Patole showed a pen drive in the assembly, in which it was claimed that 72 senior officers and some leaders were involved in a honeytrap case in Nashik.
Praful Lodha’s arrest and revelations
A case was registered against Praful Lodha under the POCSO Act at Sakinaka Police Station in Mumbai, while he has been accused of rape and honeytrap at MIDC Police Station. Sakinaka Police arrested Lodha from his ‘Lodha House’ in Chakala, Mumbai on July 5. He is currently in judicial custody.
Following the arrest, the MIDC police conducted a massive search operation at Praful Lodha’s properties in Jalgaon, Jamner and Pahur. The police have seized laptops, pen drives and several electronic gadgets from his house, which is expected to lead to more shocking revelations in the case.
Rape-blackmailing of underage girls
According to the case registered at Sakinaka police station, 62-year-old Praful Lodha is accused of raping a 16-year-old minor girl and her friend by luring them with a job. He is also accused of taking obscene photographs of the girls and threatening them by keeping them hostage in ‘Lodha House’.
Who is Praful Lodha?
Praful Lodha, who was once considered close to a big leader of Jalgaon district, later became a vocal critic of the same leader. He got a ticket from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but his ticket was canceled within five days. After this, he joined BJP in the presence of Devendra Fadnavis. It is also interesting that Lodha, who was once an opponent of Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan, had recently become his staunch supporter.
Now his arrest in this honeytrap case has caused a stir in Maharashtra politics. It is feared that a former leader and two officers from Jalgaon may also be included among the 72 officials trapped in the Nashik honeytrap case. The police are investigating deeply whether Praful Lodha has any hand in this entire racket.
This case is indicating a big storm in the political corridors of Maharashtra, and many more big revelations are likely to happen in the coming days. Is this case limited only to Praful Lodha, or does it extend to even bigger names? It remains to be seen.
