Mumbai: On the first day of the special session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar took oath as members of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Saturday. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena UBT leader Aditya Thackeray also reached the Vidhan Bhavan premises with party workers and the opposition boycotted the assembly session. Shiv Sena UBT leader Aditya Thackeray said, “We boycotted the swearing-in ceremony today because democracy is being murdered with the use of EVMs. This (Maharashtra Assembly election results) is not the mandate of the people.”
Aditya Thackeray’s big statement
Aditya Thackeray further said, ‘There is no enthusiasm in this swearing-in ceremony today. I don’t know whether this mandate is of the people or the Election Commission. In Markadwadi of Solapur, the public wanted to vote on ballot paper but the administration did not allow voting. Now the administration is arresting people there. So far 20 people have been arrested. In protest against this, the MLAs of Mahavikas Aghadi will not take oath today.’
Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena leader Shinde replied
To this, Ajit Pawar replied to him, ‘This is the order of EVM and Election Commission of India. There is no point in making such allegations here. They (opposition) should go to the Election Commission and if they do not get justice there then they should approach the court.’
On the decision of Shiv Sena UBT that their winning MLAs will not take oath, Shiv Sena leader Manisha Kayande said, ‘They (Maha Vikas Aghadi) are talking very childishly. The Speaker of the Assembly will be elected through ballot paper and then they can demand electronic machines, if this continues then the government will not be formed anywhere in the country, the way the election has been held, it has been done democratically. All the elected MLAs will take oath today and after that the leaders of the 3 parties will sit together and take a decision, their discussion has already started.’
