There is a relief news for the people of Maharashtra. The Devendra Fadnavis government of Maharashtra has decided to cut electricity rates. CM Fadnavis said that there will be a 10 percent reduction in the first year and in the next five years, electricity rates will be reduced by a total of 26 percent in a phased manner. Giving this information in his X post on Wednesday, June 25, CM Fadnavis said that there is good news on electricity rates.
‘Rates reduced for the first time in the history of the state’
CM Fadnavis said that this will be the first time in the history of the state that a decision has been taken to reduce electricity rates. He said that this has been made possible by the decision of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to approve the proposal of MSEDCL.
70 percent of the people spend less than 100 units – CM
The Chief Minister said that domestic, industrial and commercial customers will all benefit from this decision. He said that about 70 percent of the consumers in the state use less than 100 units of electricity. They will get the most benefit from a 10 percent reduction.

Along with this, he said, “The work of Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 is going on at a fast pace to ensure electricity supply to our farmers during the day. Due to the increasing focus on renewable energy in power purchase, the savings in power purchase cost in future will help in continuing the affordable rates. The CM said that till now a 10 percent increase in electricity rates was recommended every year but this time a 10 percent reduction has been recommended. According to ABP Majha, there will be a saving of Rs 66 thousand crore on the purchase of electricity in the next five years. By the year 2030, the power capacity of the state will be 81 thousand megawatts. Out of this, 31 thousand megawatts will be available from renewable energy sources.
