There is a ruckus in Maharashtra over the allegations of EVM tampering and increase in voting percentage after 5 pm. CPIM Rajya Sabha member John Brittas wrote a letter to the Election Commission regarding tampering of voting percentage in Maharashtra. Earlier, Congress had also raised questions about this and approached the Election Commission. Brittas’s letter has come out after two days. In the letter, Brittas has accused of tampering with the voting data.
Brittas said that the data shows that 58.22 percent voting was recorded in Maharashtra at 5 pm and after including the voters standing in line at 5 pm, this figure increased to 65.02 percent by 11:30 pm. A few hours before the counting started, the voting percentage was reported to be 66.05, which shows an increase of 7.83 percent and is equivalent to about 76 lakh additional votes.
Brittas demanded urgent clarification from ECI
He further said that the data of Jharkhand elections shows that there has been a very small increase of 1.79 and 0.86 percent in two phases. Brittas said that in states like Maharashtra and Haryana where the figures increased after the elections, the NDA won, whereas in Jharkhand assembly elections and Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha elections where there was no such increase, the opposition performed well. Brittas has demanded urgent clarification from the Election Commission in this entire matter. However, the Election Commission had said on Saturday that there was transparency in all the election processes adopted in Maharashtra.
Claim of tampering with EVM frequency in Maharashtra
Earlier, a person named Syed Shuja had claimed that the frequency of EVMs in Maharashtra was tampered with and hacked. The Chief Election Officer of Maharashtra has filed a complaint against Shuja. He said that the claim made by Syed Shuja is false and baseless. Actually, some people had shared a video on social media, in which Shuja had claimed that in the Maharashtra assembly elections, the EVM can be hacked by tampering with its frequency, after which the Election Commission took this action. The Commission has said that EVM is such a machine that cannot be connected to any network including Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. There can be no tampering with it.
