It is alleged that both animals were being kept illegally in the house. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch Unit 9 investigated the matter and rescued the animals. According to reports, a joint team of the Forest Department, Mumbai Crime Branch Unit-9, and the NGO ‘Serp India’ safely rescued the crocodile and the turtle from the house.
Case registered against a man named Imran Sheikh
The joint team conducted the operation on February 3, 2026, at a house located on J.R. Mhatre Marg. The investigation revealed that these animals are included in Schedule-1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, which places them in the protected category. A case has been registered against a 29-year-old man named Imran Sheikh under various sections of this Act for illegally keeping the turtle and the crocodile, and the investigation is ongoing. Officials say that keeping wildlife in this manner poses a threat to the animals, and strict action will be taken against the accused.
