Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday (August 7) took a big dig at his arch rival Uddhav Thackeray. He said that Uddhav Thackeray supports the Congress which insulted Balasaheb Thackeray. Eknath Shinde said that former Chief Election Commissioner MS Gill, who ‘took away’ the voting rights of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray, was ‘rewarded’ by the Congress.
Uddhav Thackeray had once termed Eknath Shinde a ‘traitor’. Criticizing this, Eknath Shinde said that it was Uddhav Thackeray who compromised with the Hindutva ideals of Bal Thackeray.
‘Went to the residence of the leader who insulted Bal Thackeray’
In a conversation with PTI Bhasha, Eknath Shinde mentioned the dinner at Rahul Gandhi’s residence. Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray had attended the dinner. On this, Eknath Shinde said, “It is surprising that he is going to the residence of the leader of the party that rewarded the person who took away the voting rights of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.”
Shinde said that it was the Congress that ‘rewarded’ former Chief Election Commissioner Gill by giving him a ministerial post in the UPA government, who had deprived Balasaheb Thackeray of voting rights.
Many questions put before Uddhav Thackeray
Taking a dig at Uddhav, the Shiv Sena leader said, “You are meeting those who insulted Balasaheb, you are meeting those who insulted Savarkar, who questioned ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the bravery of the armed forces.”
Eknath Shinde on Thackeray’s ‘traitor’ statement
The Deputy Chief Minister said that it was Uddhav Thackeray who betrayed the people’s mandate in the 2019 Maharashtra elections and joined hands with the Congress and NCP. He said, “The word used by Uddhav Thackeray is absolutely correct for him. In 2019, Maharashtra gave the mandate to Shiv Sena-BJP to form the government. With whom did they form an alliance? With Congress, only for selfish reasons, to grab the Chief Minister’s chair. The word he uses for me – treacherous, traitor – applies exactly to him.”
‘Uddhav Thackeray did not even get votes to become the leader of the opposition’ Eknath Shinde said that the people of Maharashtra taught a lesson to the real traitors in the 2024 assembly elections. Eknath Shinde said, “He did not even get the mandate to be recognized as the leader of the opposition. The people of Maharashtra have stamped the real traitors of the state through the election results.”
