Mumbai: The Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday approved several major projects including the Wadala-CSMT-Gateway of India Metro line in Mumbai, the ring metro in Thane, extension of Line 2 and Line 4 of Pune Metro, and Nagpur Metro Phase 2. A statement issued by the CM Office said that the Cabinet also approved loans for these projects, with the state government bearing the contingent liabilities.
Two new stations approved
Two new stations at Balajinagar and Bibwewadi on the Swargate-Katraj Metro corridor in Pune were approved, along with the relocation of Katraj station, involving an additional expenditure of Rs 683.11 crore.
The Cabinet also approved the state’s participation in suburban rail expansion projects under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)-3, 3A and 3B, as well as funds for the Pune-Lonavala suburban third and fourth lines.
Cabinet decisions
A budget of Rs 23,487.51 crore was approved for the Metro Line-11 project (Wadala-CSMT-Gateway of India) in Mumbai.
The monthly assistance amount under the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana and Shravanabal Yojana for Divyangjans implemented by the Social Justice Department was increased by Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500.
A policy for the use of fly ash from thermal power plants of state-run Mahagenco was approved.
Amendments to the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017 and the Factories Act, 1948 were also approved.
In the education sector, the government decided to implement the Centre’s pre-matric scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe students of Class 9 and 10, which will replace the state-run Swarna Jayanti Adivasi Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme.
The financial participation of the state government in the third and fourth line project of Pune-Lonavala suburban railway was long pending. The total cost of the project proposed by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is Rs 5,100 crore, including land acquisition expenditure. The financial responsibility will be shared equally between the central government and the state government, with Maharashtra’s share being Rs 2,550 crore. The decision is expected to reduce the increasing passenger load on Pune-Lonavala suburban rail services.
In Thane, a new elevated corridor connecting the city to the Navi Mumbai International Airport will be developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis through the Maharashtra Municipal and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
The government has given in-principle approval to develop an International Business and Finance Centre (IBFC) under the ‘Naya Nagpur’ project by acquiring 692 hectares of land in Hingna taluka of Nagpur.
The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority will also develop an outer ring road with four truck and bus terminals.
The Cabinet also approved Rs 3,750 crore for the construction of a new high court complex in Bandra (east), Mumbai. (PTI)
