During a program in Akola, Maharashtra, Swaraj India Party founder Yogendra Yadav was attacked by a mob. While he was giving his speech, 40 to 50 angry people climbed on the stage and started pushing and shoving him. In fact, Yogendra Yadav had reached Akola under his Bharat Jodo Abhiyan. During this, he was addressing a gathering, when VBA workers reached there and started creating a ruckus. Soon the workers climbed on the stage and started vandalism. During this, VBA workers also threw chairs, which created chaos in the program.

At the same time, the police force present on the spot and Yogendra Yadav’s supporters with great difficulty stopped the VBA workers from climbing on the stage. But due to this ruckus, Yogendra Yadav had to stop his speech midway. The situation became so bad that it became difficult to take Yogendra Yadav out. However, the policemen and supporters somehow took him out.
A matter of concern for democracy
After the uproar, Yogendra Yadav said that the attack on me and my colleagues in Akola is a matter of concern for a person who believes in democracy. He told that during the Vidarbha tour of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, we were conducting a conference on the topic of ‘Protection of Constitution and our vote’. During this time, the crowd climbed on the stage to stop me from speaking. He said that the local colleagues surrounded me and protected me. Even after the arrival of the police, the miscreants continued to vandalize.
Promised to come to Akola again
Yogendra Yadav said that in the last 25 years, he has given lectures at many places in Maharashtra, but this has never happened before. This incident is sad for Maharashtra as well as for those who believe in the Constitution and democracy. But such incidents make our dedication to protect democracy even stronger.
