Maharashtra: During medical check-up in Maharashtra, 2 out of 7 prisoners were found missing; 9 policemen were suspended for misleading the seniors and negligence in duty.

Nine policemen have been suspended for alleged negligence and dereliction of duty while taking seven undertrial prisoners for medical examination in Thane city of Maharashtra. A senior officer gave this information.

The officer said on Friday (August 8) that the investigation found that there were many irregularities when seven undertrial prisoners were taken to Kalwa Civic Hospital on August 4. He said that on the basis of this, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters-II) Dr. Pawan Bansod issued the suspension order.

Only 5 out of 7 prisoners were present
The officer said that the police team failed to properly monitor the prisoners, which raised suspicion of malpractice. He said that during the investigation in the hospital, it was found that only 5 out of 7 prisoners were present. One prisoner was also not handcuffed and a member of the team was found talking on mobile phone instead of doing duty.

The officer said that after this the police team allegedly misled its senior officers about the information of two missing prisoners. He said that the team first claimed that both of them had gone for X-ray. But when the X-ray department and the surrounding areas were searched, they were not found there.

Both the prisoners were found at 3:50 pm

After this, the team said that the prisoners had gone to the toilet, but they were not found there either. Finally, both the prisoners were found at 3:50 pm. The suspended policemen are Gangaram Ghule, Girish Patil, Vilas Mohite, Kishore Shirke, Ashok Munde, Sandeep Kharat, Sunil Nikalje, Bharat Jaibhay and Vikram Jambure.

A departmental inquiry has also been started against these 9 policemen. At the same time, senior officials have given instructions to review the surveillance system and security standards to prevent such incidents in future.
