Maharashtra’s Mumbai Police has arrested the office boy who stole Rs 40 lakh from musician Pritam Chakraborty’s office. The accused has been arrested from Jammu and Kashmir and 95 percent of the stolen amount has also been recovered. The accused has been identified as Ashish Bootiram Sayal, who allegedly stole a bag full of Rs 40 lakh from the studio on the pretext of delivering goods to Pritam Chakraborty’s house and then fled.
Mumbai’s Malad Police said that the accused is 32 years old. He was working for Pritam for many years. After registering the case, Malad Police saw footage of 150 to 200 CCTV cameras and reached the accused.
Phone and laptop recovered
The police have recovered about Rs 34 lakh from the accused. Along with this, iPhone and laptop bought with stolen money have also been recovered. The accused had bought an iPhone worth about 2.5 lakhs with the stolen money. The accused was working with Pritam for many years. In such a situation, when he ran away with the bag, Pritam hoped that he would return soon. That is why he waited for a day before complaining to the police.
How did the accused reach Kashmir after the theft?
A film director had given Pritam money for his work. Pritam’s manager had kept the bag full of money in his office. Accused Ashish said in the office that he was going to give some goods to Pritam’s house and left with the bag full of money. He roamed on the road for a long time. He knew that road work was going on and many CCTVs were not working. Later he went to his friend and said that he had to send his money to Chandigarh. After this he sent the money through hawala and left by flight himself.
After reaching Chandigarh, he withdrew money and bought iPhone, laptop. He was also planning to buy a house, but by then the police found the auto driver who had dropped the accused to his friend’s house. After this the police got the location of the accused and he was caught.
