Maharashtra: Mumbai Police have withdrawn the police security provided to film director Hansal Mehta and actor Salman Khan’s manager Prashant Gunjalkar after a security review.

Mumbai Police has withdrawn the police protection provided to renowned film director Hansal Mehta and actor Salman Khan’s manager, Prashant Gunjalkar. According to police sources, the security department took this decision on the instructions of senior officials. The police personnel assigned to protect both individuals have also been removed.

Hansal Mehta received security in 2021
According to police officials, after the tremendous success of the web series Scam 1992 in 2021, Hansal Mehta and his family began receiving continuous threatening phone calls from a caller who identified himself as Rohit.

Hansal Mehta filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police regarding this matter, after which he was provided with police protection. He had previously received threats in 2009 during a controversy over dialogues in a film.

Salman Khan’s manager’s security also withdrawn
Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s manager, Prashant Gunjalkar, was provided with police protection in 2023. In March 2023, he received a threatening email from an ID named Mohit Garg.

The email, referencing Goldy Brar, demanded that Gunjalkar arrange a meeting with Salman Khan and warned of serious consequences if the demand was not met. Following this email, Gunjalkar filed an FIR with the police, based on which he was provided security.

Who still receives security?
According to sources, the police protection for some other celebrities will continue. These include producer Sajid Nadiadwala, actor Aayush Sharma, stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui, actor Govinda, and singer AP Dhillon. The police stated that security is reviewed periodically based on threat assessments, and further decisions are made accordingly.
