Ambadass Danve’s statement on Aurangzeb

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, there was a war of words on Saturday between the leaders of the ruling Shiv Sena and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction on the issue of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Khuldabad of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Ambadas Danve said that the presence of the tomb reminds that the Mughal emperor was defeated and buried here. He said, “We should be able to tell our future generations that Aurangzeb came here and was buried on this land.” Danve said the call to remove the grave is a conspiracy to erase this history. Taking a dig at those demanding the removal of the grave, he said, “If you have the guts, go and do it.”

Sanjay Shirsat hits back at Danve

State minister Sanjay Shirsat hit back, saying there is no place in Maharashtra for the grave of the cruel emperor who tortured and killed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Shirsat, a leader of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and guardian minister of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, said, “The grave should be removed. Those who love Aurangzeb and his grave can take its remains home.” The minister took a dig at Danve and said, “The opposition takes out rallies with the flag of Pakistan. If they think this way, they should go there and offer namaz.”

Meanwhile, Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote has been barred from entering Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from March 16 to April 5. The order issued by the deputy district magistrate on Saturday said that Ekbote’s organisation Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Pratishthan pays tribute to Chhatrapati Sambhaji in Pune every year and there was intelligence input that he and his supporters might come to Khuldabad to remove Aurangzeb’s tomb.
