Priyanka Chaturvedi On Veer Savarkar: The Uddhav faction in Maharashtra has made a big allegation against the BJP. Shiv Sena UBT MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday (February 12) accused the BJP of using the name of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar for political gain and demanded that Savarkar be awarded the Bharat Ratna.
This statement of the Shiv Sena UBT Rajya Sabha member came at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a visit to Marseilles in France, recalled Savarkar’s escape attempts while being taken to India by the British in a ship.
‘BJP only does politics in his name’
Priyanka Chaturvedi told, “Veer Savarkar ji has made significant contributions. Shiv Sena has always demanded Bharat Ratna for him, but the BJP is not doing so. They remember Veer Savarkar ji for politics and forget him when their work is done.” The Rajya Sabha member said that there should be no politics when a freedom fighter is honored.
He further said, “The Prime Minister has paid tribute to him in France from where his struggle started and he was sent to jail. If we honor freedom fighters, there should be no politics on it.”
‘Indira Gandhi had issued a postage stamp’
The Shivsena UBT MP further said, “It should not be forgotten that Indira Gandhi ji had also made a documentary on him and also issued a postage stamp. Everyone had a different view, whether it was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, or Veer Savarkar, but their goal was the same, freedom from the British.”
PM Modi paid tribute in France
Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi reached Marseille in South France on Tuesday (11 February) night and paid tribute to Savarkar. After reaching there, Modi said in a post on his X handle, “I have reached Marseille. This city holds special importance in India’s struggle for freedom. It was here that the great Veer Savarkar made a bold attempt to escape.”
